The Core of the Battery: Battery Management System

Battery Management System (BMS) in controlling the battery to guarantee charging safety and preserve battery life.

Understanding the charging impact of the BMS will assist you in comprehending its working mechanism and ensuring safe charging and battery lifespan.

Main Functions of BMS

To manage the voltage, current, temperature and power of the battery, etc.

To monitor the battery status to prevent overcharge, over-discharge, etc.

To optimize battery and charging operating conditions to enhance energy efficiency

The Operating Mode of the BMS During Charging

The BMS is accountable for regulating and transiting into a rapid charging state when the current is low. This is accomplished by maintaining a constant voltage and gradually increasing the current. Once the current reaches a threshold for constant current charging, the voltage will be incrementally elevated. This process usually persists until the EV battery capacity attains a high enough electric quantity.

At a high charge, the voltage will reach a state of constant voltage (maximum), at which point it will not change in magnitude, while the current continues to decline. Consequently, the overall charging speed gradually reduces, entering what is known as a constant voltage charging state.

Charging Effect of BMS

The BMS regulates the charging speed and limits it when reaching high power levels to alleviate potential risks associated with excessive current flow.

Prolonged utilization of fast charging might accelerate battery degradation, and the high power demands a reduction in the charging current in the high electric quantity to maintain battery longevity.

Get safety to you with battery, by BMS.
