Difference for Electric Vehicle Charging Station Level

With the advancement of the times, electric vehicle charging stations have been utilized for daily charging with direct current. There are three primary levels of EV charging stations, which are defined by the charging speed or charging power to fulfill diverse charging demands.

Level 1 charging station is similar to level 2 charging station in the aspect that alternating current is employed for charging. They will charge more slowly than the level 3 charging stations that utilize DC for rapid charging, but they are also simpler to install and utilize. As the fast-paced life persists in evolving, the DC fast charge of level 3 charging station is more in line with the trend of the times, and people are more inclined to pursue fast charging methods. Hence,level 3 charging station has become the first choice for people.

Level 1

As the most fundamental charging approach, it employs a household power outlet, typically using 110V or 220V voltage, and its power range is between 1.4kW and 2.4kW. It offers a range of approximately 4-6 kilometers per hour. Due to the relatively sluggish charging speed, first-level charging stations are more appropriate for scenarios where there is an extended parking duration, such as overnight charging.

Although the charging is slow, the vehicle can recharge its power during lengthy parking periods, which is highly suitable for daily use and users with low charging requirements.

Level 2

More efficient charging stations, with power ranging from 3.7kW to 22kW, provide a range of approximately 16-80 kilometers per hour. This charging station can meet the daily requirements of car owners, particularly suitable for those who need to replenish electricity on a daily basis. It is capable of providing sufficient battery life for electric vehicles within a certain period to facilitate users to work promptly during work, shopping, or other daily activities.

Level 3

The charging station adopting DC charging mode can reach a power range of over 50kW, and it can provide a range of 160-480 kilometers of endurance within one hour. Depending on the charging method employed, there are various adapters that can achieve an efficient charging speed.

Level 3 charging stations are usually established in high-speed power service areas, urban charging stations, etc., and they need to be utilized for fast charging during long-distance travels. Level 3 charging stations can significantly enhance the battery life of electric vehicles within a short period, which is suitable for rapid recharge during the journey.
